CryoPen™ is an innovation in Cryotherapy. Skin Tags, Milia, Cherry Angiomas, Age Spots, Warts and Verrucas – all treated quickly and painlessly.

Not to be confused with traditional cryotherapy, it eliminates the use of liquid nitrogen making treatment virtually painless, quick, effective, and safe enough to use on children. It is an ideal solution for removal of skin lesions and imperfections. Procedures usually take just 5 to 25 seconds, so you can be in and out of the clinic quickly.

The CryoPen™ emits a pressurised, super fine jet of nitrous oxide from its tip, which allows our clinician to work with precision that is millimeter perfect. The tissue is destroyed by freezing the inter-cellular fluid, this forms ice crystals which break the cell membrane, thereby destroying the tissue we are wanting to remove. That means that healthy tissue remains untouched. It’s so incredibly accurate and practical. Cosmetic procedures such as skin tags, millia and cherry angiomas are no longer treatable as a standard NHS procedure. With the CryoPen™ you can now have these treatments affordably in our clinic.

The facial peels available in our I-Peel Line can be combined with the I-Enhance Line, offering unmatched customization options. Please note that these chemical peels are intended for use by skin care professionals.

FAQ's

What happens during a treatment?
The super fine applicator is held closely to the skin imperfection and liquid nitrogen sprayed onto the distorted, unhealthy tissue only. This is usually from 1-30 seconds, depending on the size and depth. The legion is then allowed to thaw, and return to its natural colour. The process may be repeated in the same session if required. Please view the above video for a demonstration on an example of Cryopen™ treatment.
How safe is cryotherapy with Cryopen™?
Cryotherapy is a low-risk procedure. Cryopen™ delivers N2O directly to the area, and not the healthy surrounding tissue. Cryopen™ is both CE and FDA registered.
Does it hurt?
It is virtually painless. The accuracy of Cryopen™ means that healthy skin around the site of the lesion is less likely to be effected, and therefore it is not painful. Treatment is generally very well tolerated, even with those with a low pain threshold. The sensation is similar to a stinging nettle on the skin when the nitrous oxide reaches the bottom of the area, but this vanishes quickly. There might be a little residual stinging for a few minutes after treatment.

The area will be slightly itchy for about ten minutes. Occasionally a blister might form and persist for a few hours.

This is NOT to be confused with traditional Cryotherapy, which can be very painful as it usually hits healthy tissue.
What is the after care?
After care is minimal as there is no wound or raw area. However, a small blister is not uncommon in the first 24 hours, this is reabsorbed by the skin quickly. The lesion will dry up, assume a darker colour and slough off in 1 to 2 weeks. It is very important not to pick at the area as this will increase healing time.
What is the expected healing process?
Healing occurs from 1-6 weeks depending on depth of and size of lesion. Lesions usually assume a darker colour (this is the dead cells), as the skin regenerates underneath it will slough or flake away.
Will it leave a scar?
Generally no. Cryosurgery with Cryopen™ preserves the tissue matrix which is relatively cold resistant, and therefore allows for proper cosmetic healing with minimal scarring. This will of course depend on your skin type, and how well you follow the aftercare advice. Hypo-pigmentation in the area (a small pink patch of skin, where new skin has formed, that is lighter in colour) may be visible for 2-6 months. This color loss may take longer to return in darker pigmented skin.
What if I have darker skin?
After care is minimal as there is no wound or raw area. However, a small blister is not uncommon in the first 24 hours, this is reabsorbed by the skin quickly. The lesion will dry up, assume a darker colour and slough off in 1 to 2 weeks. It is very important not to pick at the area as this will increase healing time.
Can children be treated?
Yes, because of the reduced discomfort, we are often able to treat younger patients without distress. You will be asked to fill in a parental consent form before your child’s treatment.
Who isn’t the treatment suitable for?
Pregnant or breastfeeding women and those with auto-immune disorders or cold sensitivity are not suitable for treatment. It is not suitable for those that suffer from keloid scarring.
Cherry Angiomas
A Skin Tag is a common skin growth that looks like a small piece of hanging skin, often described as bits of skin-or flesh-coloured tissue that project from the surrounding skin from a small, narrow stalk. They typically occur on the neck, underarms, eyelids, and under the breasts. They are harmless and do not become cancerous or malignant. Skin tags are usually inherited.

Treatment with CryoPen involves freezing the base of the skin tag close to the blood supply of the growth. This procedure is well suited to treating small or large skin tags because it accelerates healing with minimal pain and damage to the skin. Most of our clients prefer this method because it offers immediate results. The growths will turn dark, and just drop off over a few days. Skin tags are usually completely removed with the first treatment.
Milia
Milia often referred to as milk spots or facial oil seeds, are keratin-filled cysts that can appear just under the epidermis. They are common in people of all ages, they appear mostly on the face. They can turn dark after treatment, and fall out. They are usually removed with CryoPen in one session.
Warts & Verrucas
Moles
CryoPen is perfect for mole removal. But, you will need to check with your GP prior to treatment if you wish for us to remove a mole. We can email you with a helpful form for your GP to complete. This is just to check that the mole/s are safe to remove. You will need to bring this form to your appointment. Moles turn darker after treatment, flaking away to reveal new skin.
Solar Lentigo, Sun Spots and Pigmentation
To protect itself from the damaging effects of the sun, your skin increases its production of the dark brown pigment called melanin. The extra melanin makes your skin look darker or sun-tanned. In some cases, the sun causes an uneven increase in melanin production, which produces irregular coloring or pigmentation of the skin. Lentigo or lentigines may evolve slowly over years, or they may appear suddenly. They may occur anywhere on the body and vary in colour from tan-brown to black. They usually require just one treatment with CryoPen. The area will go darker after treatment, and flake/slough away to reveal new skin.
